The Audi A8 was first released in 1994. The first two generations shared the Volkswagen Group D platform while the prevailing generation is based on the MLB platform. It was the first mass-market aluminum chassis vehicle. A high performance model with mechanically updated version was released in 1996 known as the Audi S. With the objective to design a light weight car Ferdinand Piëch signed a contract with America. It was released in 1993 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as an Audi Space Frame concept.


The First Generation Audi A8

audi a8The first generation Audi A8 was released in 1994. It launched at the Geneva Auto Show. It was manufactured on a steel platform. It was made available in saloon and sedan body styles in the standard wheelbase and L extended wheelbase models. The extended wheelbase had larger legroom for the rear area. In 1997 the car received six interior airbags.


The 1997 Audi a8 was the world’s first car with front and rear side airbags. The same year it introduced the ESP Electronic stability control for all-wheel drive models. The a8 had an enhanced Bose audio system, dual-zone climate control and leather and wood interior.
In 1999, the North American package known as the warm weather package had a larger passenger-side mirror, interior ventilation fans and a solar sunroof. Also a first aid kit was included too.


The Second Generation Audi A8

The second generation Audi a8 was manufactured on the Volkswagen Group D3 platform and was released in 2002 in Europe and in 2003 in the United States of America. The mode; had larger exterior dimensions when compared with the previous models. it had four to five passengers capacity. At the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show the Audi Avantissimo concept car was released. It was loaded with many technologies that were latter introduced to the future models of the Audi such as electric park brake, Adaptive Front Lighting System, bi-xenon headlights, continuously controlled damping and Multi Media Interface.


The Third Generation Audi A8

The third generation Audi A8 was released in 2009 at the Design Miami and in North America in 2010 at the North American International Auto Show.
The new changes to the third generation models were FlexRay technology, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control and a Collision avoidance system: Pre sense with complete four phases.


This A8 was released in 2010 and latter at the Taipei Motor Show in 2011. In Germany the models were available for sale in 2010 while the Taiwan models initiated sales towards the end of the same year. In 2011, china initiated the sale. This model had an electric motor, 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, LED headlights, three-zone automatic air conditioning and a BOSE sound system. It was released at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. This modified and updated version of the vehicle had automatic high beam lighting, LED headlight technology and the LEDs by the Osram supplies. It was released at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show.
