The 2003 Honda Accord was released as the seventh generation of the Honda Accord. It was launched as two different versions. One version was launched for the European and Japanese markets and the other was launched for the North American market.

After the famous advertisements for the Accord, the car became popular in many countries and was offered for sale in many other markets. For the Japanese market the Euro R remained in production in this generation. It was equipped with the K20 engine. Whereas for the European performance model, it used a larger K24 engine and was named as the Type S.

JAPANESE AND EUROPEAN MARKET

The new Japanese and European Accords used the preceding Accord’s chassis with a new body. These were produced in Japan and were available in sedan and estate body styles. For the European market, three different engines were offered a 2.0 i-VTEC, a 2.4 i- VTEC and a 2.2 i-CDTi turbo diesel engine. In 2003 soon after its release it received the award for the car of the year Japan. This model was available for sale in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand under the name Accord Euro and as the Acura TSX in North America.

ACCORD EURO R CL7, 2002–2007

The Honda Accord Euro R was released in 2002. It was a light weight and a sports oriented Japanese vehicle. The car was charged with a K20A 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine. It had a 6-speed manual transmission. It was available for sale in the European and Japanese domestic markets. Some of the specific features for this model were the body kit, a special metal gear knob, a MOMO steering wheel and the Recaro seats.

THE NORTH AMERICAN MODEL

The North American model had the extended exterior dimensions as compared to the European and Japanese models. With availability of both coupe and sedan models it was also offered in a hybrid model in early 2005. For the 2006 model it had many significant updates. It is the first accord to use the five lug nuts on the wheels and instead of using a timing belt the 4-cylinder engine used a timing chain. For the 2003 the Accord coupe became more aggressive with the 240 horse power. It had the 6-speed manual transmission inspired from the TH Type S of the Accura. The coupe had features like carbon fiber dash pieces, an upgraded stereo system, leather seating and strut tower bar. In 2006, the combination of this engine and transmission was offered in sedan that remained till 2007. It was sold as the Honda Inspire in Japan from 2003 to 2008 and in China it was known as Guangzhou-Honda Accord.

The eight generation Honda Accord was released in 2008. In New Zealand and European markets it was known as the Accord Euro and in North America it is marketed as Acura TSX. The safety features have been approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
