Q6. How can I reserve a car from SBT?

The customer gives us confirmation by specifying the stock number they want to buy, then we reserve the car in their account and issue a proforma invoice.

Q7. How much payment do I have to make before shipment? How can I trust you?

Payment terms are usually 50% or 100% TT before shipment. For trust, we can provide references of our regular customers or arrange conference calls with customers who have already bought cars through SBT.

Q8. From which Institute is the inspection made?

Pre-shipment inspection from JAAI (Japan Auto Appraisal Institute) / MAURI-AUTO and Radiation inspection from NKKK (Nippon Kaiji Kentei Kyokai) for Mauritius only.

Q9. Can I see if my vehicle passed its inspection?

A PDF of your vehicle’s inspection certificate will be sent to you by email once it has been received from the inspection agency.

Q10. What is the auction service that SBT provides?

SBT Japan has buyers in almost all the auction houses in Japan, providing a huge variety of cars that the customer can buy.

Q11. From where do SBT JAPAN buy the cars for their stock?

SBT Japan buys cars from all over Auction Houses in Japan & UK.

Q12. Is it better to buy from Stock or from Auction?

It depends on the customer's choice. If we have a car available in stock according to customer specifications, we arrange it from stock. If the car is not available, we move to the auction house option.

Q13. Can I place a bid for my desired car from the Auction?

Yes, once you remit the auction deposit amount, we provide you with a Login ID and Password where you can place bids within your estimated budget.

Q14. When is the shipment done?

Once the import permit is granted, we send the booking request for shipment. After booking confirmation, when the car leaves the port, we send the copy of the B/L (Bill of Lading) proving the car has been shipped from Japan.

Q15. How long does it take to receive the car at Port Louis?

It depends on whether the customer makes all payments on time. The car will be shipped on the earliest available vessel. Usually, it takes 25 days in transit.

Q16. Which year model car can be imported in Mauritius?

The car should be above 18 months and less than 4 years old from the date of the first registration.

Q17. What sort of documents are required to apply for the Import Permit?

Proforma Invoice with consignee details and the Auction sheet of the car are required. Before applying for the import permit, the customer has to pay a bank guarantee of 100,000 MUR, which will be refunded once the car is cleared from the port.

Q18. In how many days can I get the import permit?

It usually takes 4-5 working days, depending on the workload of the Ministry.

Q19. How would I know the CO2 value for rebate calculation?

There is a list available for CO2 G/Km, which we convey at the time of reservation.

Q20. What are the custom duties to be paid for the car?

We suggest checking with local customs authorities, but roughly, the Import Excise Duty (IED) is 55% plus 15% VAT.

Q21. What if the car's condition is not good when it reaches Port Louis?

It won't be the case because we provide the auction sheet before reservation. According to Mauritius import policy, cars below 3.5 auction grade are not allowed for import, meaning the car is in good condition.

Q22. How do I get the documents?

We send documents through DHL to the customer's residence.
