Toyota Cresta was introduced as a rear wheel drive sedan manufactured by Toyota. It replicated the chassis of Mark ll and Cressida sold in Japan locally only. Cresta was made to achieve a more advanced and more luxurious vehicle than mark ll, the production was stopped when its design was merged with Cresta’s to make a more advanced version in the form of Verrosa. It came out as a more luxurious and sporty car.

 

X50-X60 Series of Toyota Cresta

toyota crestaThe first generation Toyota Cresta was introduced with halogen lights to give a modern European touch and was offered with a full variety of luxury services and conveniences. Even the trim levels were available under names suggesting luxury. Super Touring, Super Lucent, Super Deluxe, super customs and customs are some of the worth mentioning names. To give Cresta a much younger demographics two-tone paint schemes were used.

 

This luxury approach was very appreciated by the buyers and eventually encouraged the Toyota chairman to initiate a project named as F1 Project, planned to present first-rate luxury sedan for international markets. The cars produced under this project were named as Lexus LS.

 

X70 Series of Toyota Cresta

The second generation of Toyota Cresta was introduced with hard top exterior. The newly installed features were GT Twin Turbo engine as a replacement of the M-TEU engine. To give it a western touch, power side view mirrors were installed at the front doors. The fog lights were fixed in the front bumper as an enhancement to the new western style.

 

X80 Series of Toyota Cresta

The third generation was introduced in 1988 with a transitional exterior as compared to the previously used exterior by the Toyota products. It was available with 1G-GZE engine.

 

Modern Generations of Toyota Cresta

The x90 Toyota Cresta introduced in 1992 was no longer a compact car. It became bigger and adopted new trim levels of its sister cars the Mark II and Chaser, although it had undergone major styling and mechanical changes when compared to its previous versions. The X90 Cresta was available in four trim levels namely SC, Suffire, Super Lucent and Tourer. All these cars had the same layout design with some options as standard side-impact bars, airbags, and automatic climate control.

 

The SC version is offered with a very few options with a 4 speed automatic diesel or petrol engine, suffire was offered in the same options as sc was. Whereas the super lucent was offered with options like a factory LSD or a moon roof, super lucent model was offered in G package that had a leather interior, cruise control and ABS, 15" wheels.

 

Tourer Vs famous amongst drifters were available with the option of a 5 speed manual and a pair of turbochangers. Its standard options included ABS, traction control and LSD. A lot of buyers want used Toyota Cresta as it has a very tough vvti engine also known as BEAMS engine with a strong body.
