The Volkswagen Crafter was available in three different mounting styles as well as a simple chassis for individual assembly or upgrades. As a small transport the VW Crafter stood in a closed version as a box-wagon in the program.
Volkswagen Crafter Varieties
In addition to the version with a short wheelbase equipped with a 1.30-meter wide side-sliding door. The height of the loading compartment in the version with super-roof was 2.14 meters. In the box construction, the VW Crafter summed up a maximum of 17 cubic meters of cargo. In addition to the closed bodies, Volkswagen offered the Crafter as a flatbed with a simple cab or crewcab for up to seven passengers. The payload capacity of the VW Crafter in combination with an open loading area was up to 2.7 tons.
The VW Crafter as a Minibus
As a minibus, the VW Crafter was available in three variants with seating for a maximum of 19 people. The flexible seating concept made it possible to equip the VW Crafter with a short wheelbase with two or three rear seat benches, thus providing space for up to nine passengers.
The version with medium wheelbase was also designed for nine occupants, but a different seat layout with up to four seat rows could be made in the extended interior. In the VW Crafter Hanover line, the manufacturer offered the minibus with up to six seat rows so that 13, 16 or 19 passengers could be transported, depending on the option selected.
The Engine Equipment
The VW Crafter was offered exclusively as a self-ignition on the market. The choice was made of common-rail diesel engines in four power levels, which were initially the Euro4 exhaust gas standard and were equipped with soot particle filters as standard.
In recent years, there was also an environmentally-optimized variant, in which the fuel consumption of the VW Crafter was reduced by the use of a start-stop automatic. In the lower power levels the VW Crafter could access 65 kW (88 hp) and 80 kW (109 hp). The larger units offered the Volkswagen Crafter 100 kW (136 hp) and 120 kW (163 hp). The engines were combined with a manual six-speed gearbox.
Verdict
The VW Crafter is a good model of transportation and travel around. It can tow enough amounts of goods easily and safety transport to the other place. Indeed VW Crafter is a valued commercial vehicle.
