The Beginning
In the eighties of the 19th century, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz independently invented the high-speed engine. Both initially founded their own companies: Benz & Co. and DMG. In search of a catchy trade name, the inventors first chose their own names: the Benz and the Daimler were born.
While Karl Benz remained at the naming, Gottlieb Daimler after the turn of the century brought the brand new name Mercedes into the game. Mercedes is a Spanish women name meaning as mercy.
