Japanese car corporations are finally marking their presence in the sports car industry which is dominated by the European elites. The two most prominent and promising sports car that the Japanese offer is the Honda CR-Z and the Toyota 86, subjects to a constant battle amongst the sports car fanatics.
Exterior
The Toyota 86 looks bigger than its actual size; such is the presence of the 86. Toyota has placed the “Aerodynamic Sandwich” philosophy, enabling aero efficiency without the need of any spoilers or wings. The front is the brands typical wide-mouth look with a T mesh. The roof is pagoda style and gives an overall fluid look. Besides its sleekness, Toyota have added a touch of sportiness with flared wheel arches and two the two jumbo exhaust pipes. All this concludes a very sleek and stylish sports vehicle with the right number of sharpness and curves.
Honda CR-Z has done the unimaginable by combining fuel efficiency and sports car together. The CR-Z stands for “Compact Renaissance Zero”. CR-Z is not a coupe but in fact a three-door hatchback. It does not come with frameless doors or even a separate space for trunk. The CR-Z has alow height and a wide stance. The wheel is quite brilliantly filled by 17-inch alloys. The rear has pointed triangular LED tail lights along with two piece tailgate glass.
Interior
The interior of the Toyota 86 is very ergonomic with all the controls and instrument within reach. The seating is lower emphasizing over the 86’s low center gravity, resulting in excellent dynamics of driving balance. The complete interior is simple and minimal with no useless space occupied. Straight forward dials for easy referencing.
The Honda CR-Z’s interior tends to excite the occupants once you step in. The instrument cluster is given a futuristic look. It looks cool and at the same time less complicated. All the controls are also directed towards the driver allowing him having a hassle free access to the options available. The use of metal accents inside reflects a high-tech feeling. In a nutshell, the Honda CR-Z exterior is cohesive and special.
Performance Fuel Consumption / MPG
The 86 is the purest form a sports coupe. The Honda 86 has a 2.0 liter horizontally opposed 4 cylinder engine, 205 Nm of torque and 200 horsepower. It comes with a six speed manual transmission gear. In spite of being a sports car, the 86 realizes superb fuel mileage: 9.62 km per litre in the city and 13.30 km per litre on the highway.
The CR-Z is a hybrid sports car with a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine and electric power. It has a manual six speed manual transmission great response and excitement. The hybrid system is complimented by a 3-Mode Drive System which adds performance. CR-Z has a fuel economy of 10.40 km/L 19.70 km/L for city and highway respectively.
