History of the Renault Megane

In the autumn of 1995, the automobile group presented the official successor to the successful Renault 19 with the sales designation Renault Megane. The first series was produced in 2003. In January 1996, the Renault Megane entered the trade in Germany as a cantilever limousine and a two-door coupé. In the autumn follow the step rear version with the designation Classic and the Minivan Renault Megane Scénic. From April 1997 onwards, the car of the compact class will also be available as a convertible.


From this point on, all Renault Megane models are equipped with ABS as standard. In 1999, the first generation was revised. The car gets a new front and redesigned taillights. As part of this model maintenance, Renault now offers the Megane as a Kombi Grand Tour.

Since 2003, the Renault Megane is available as a coupé convertible with a two-piece glass folding roof. The roof disappear electro hydraulically in the luggage compartment at the push of a button.
