The Dutch manufacturer DAF presented its new models, which are supposed to have been seven percent more efficient in fuel consumption due to improvements in engine and aerodynamics. At the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham (April 25 - 27, 2017), the truck manufacturer DAF presented the latest generation of its CF and XF series.
Recent Updates in DAF Trucks
The medium-heavy as well as heavy-duty DAF trucks have experienced many diverse technological innovations in the drive trains, engine as well as aerodynamics, which results in reducing fuel consumption by up to seven percent as per manufacturer statement. Also the exterior and interior design has also been updated, which according to the DAF offer a plus in driving comfort as well as attractiveness.
New Models
The new models went into production in the summer of 2017 in the following configurations: 4x2 tractor units and chassis, 6x2 tractor units with leading axle and 6x2 tractor units with easy frosted trailing axle. Further versions will follow in autumn.
The drive train in the 2017 models of XF and CF has been fully integrated and revised. The result is a significant reduction in the engine speed. The maximum torque of the Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines has been increased and is now available at 900 rpm. This makes driving at very low engine revolutions possible.
Features of New Transmission
The top model of DAF truck, the MX-13 with 530 hp now delivers 2,600 Nm at 1,000 revs. In the MX engines, for example, the air intake control was optimized by a more efficient turbocharger, a new EGR system and a newly developed valve control. The new CF and XF models are translated with the "TraXon" 12-speed automatic transmissions from ZF. A 16-speed gearbox is available as an option.
The main features of the new transmissions are:
New Electronics Architecture, Better Aerodynamics
The electrical and electronic architecture of the new truck generation has been completely redesigned. It includes a new vehicle control unit for drive train integration including advanced EcoRoll and cruise control functions such as Dynamic Cruise.
Thanks to this new function, the cruise control system automatically adapts to different driving conditions. Due to the closer interlinking of cruise control (PCC) and EcoRoll, PCC can now activate the EcoRoll function. For this, both technologies have to calculate that vehicle mass and speed are sufficient to "push" the vehicle over the highest point of the slope without the speed decreasing too much.
