Overview of Toyota Supra
Toyota Supra was introduced in 1979. The second series follows 1982 (MK2) with a 170 hp 2.8-liter injection engine. Four years later, with the Toyota Celica Supra MK3, the third generation of the sports car, the first to feature a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with turbocharger. Before 1993, the fourth generation (MK4) has been introduced to get the Toyota Supra models an additional performance boost in the form of a twin turbo engine: Two sequentially switched turbo units provide the engine of the Toyota Supra while a peak power of 280 hp.
To stay up to date engine technology of the Toyota Supra was modified several times a year. As early as 1982 the first series was replaced and the 170-hp with a MK2 2.8i-direct injection engine came on the market. Again, only four years later, the MK3 was available. The turbocharger first implemented helped the 3.0-liter engine to a maximum of 238 hp and a top speed of 245 km / h. In the fourth generation in 1993 following two were sequentially connected turbo aggregates for the performance boost responsible. Thus achieved 280 hp were surpassed by the latest generation with 320 hp again.
Generations
In 1990, the first generation came as 1JZ-GTE with 2.5 liter displacement and parallel twin-turbo charging in used Supra. Here they replaced on the Japanese market the 7M-GTE, which was available only outside of Japan.
Then in 1991, followed by the second stage: the Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS300 known outside Japan as) took the second stage 2JZ-GE. With 3.0 liters of displacement, seven-bearing crankshaft, eleven hollowed bracing for the coolant transport as well as Toyotas variable intake manifold, the ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System), this aggregate considerable 225PS already reached the true technical highlight with the 2JZ-GTE turbo engine with double turbocharging.
Engine
The engineers were told the turbo lag war. It came to be known a rarely used until then in petrol engines for cars technology is used, the sequential turbocharging with two turbochargers, as turbocharging. The trick is that in the lower speed range, the exhaust flow drives a small turbine, which improves the response in comparison to a large due to the lower inertia of a small turbocharger. Now, if the air requirement of the engine rises with increasing speed, is a second, equally large turbine hooked up, bringing the two turbochargers have the same function together like a big turbo.
With this sophisticated technology to Toyota it gave an understated maximum output of 280PS, not to manufacture vehicles with more power in accordance with the commitment of Japanese manufacturers. Only the performance data for the territories outside Japan leaves the potential of this engine considerably. According to DIN standard, this engine achieves a maximum power of 330hp at 5600 / min (320HP loud American SAE standard), which makes it the most powerful standard engine Japanese this time.
