THE FIRST GENERATION OF THE TOYOTA ESTIMA

toyota estimaTokuo Fukuichi designed the first generation Toyota estima in 1987 and was first released in 1990. It was available with only a single slide door for the rear passengers. It was available with the accessories that are all engine-driven such as radiator fan, air conditioning compressor, air conditioning compressor and the alternator. It was installed with a smaller engine promoting handling and ride quality. In Japan, two smaller versions of Toyota estima were manufactured namely the Toyota Estima Emina and Toyota Estima Lucida. These two versions of the Toyota estima were offered with 2.2 litre diesel engine. The motive behind the production of the smaller Emina and Lucida models is a lower tax band as the vehicle tax system in Japan is based on the product of length and width of the vehicle.

THE SECOND GENERATION OF THE TOYOTA ESTIMA

The second generation Toyota estima replaced the first generation Toyota estima in 2000. It was a front wheel drive vehicle. This second generation Toyota estima was not sold in North America but Toyota Sienna was available in the region. It had passenger doors on both sides and was spacious enough to accommodate seven to eight passengers at a time. The range available for the Australian market was based on the GLi, GLX and Ultima. The Ultima model was considered as a competitor of the Chryslers Plymouth Voyager.

Models that were offered in the European markets had both gasoline and diesel engines. The gasoline powered model is offered with an option of a 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual transmission is available as a standard feature. The Australian Toyota estima was offered with a 4-speed automatic along with a 2.4 L petrol engine. In Japan a hybrid version was offered.

THE THIRD GENERATION OF THE TOYOTA ESTIMA

The third generation Toyota estima was released in 2006. It was first released in the Japanese and Australian markets as Estima and Tarago while in other markets it was known as Previa. It was offered with Hybrid Synergy Drive and G-BOOK. The vehicle was modified in 2009. Power-folding split third row seats, automatic parallel and back-in parking and track-mounted second row seats with footrests are included as standard features. This third generation was not available in the European market.

ESTIMA HYBRID

The third generation estima hybrid is only available in Hong Kong and Japan. It is installed with a drivetrain that has many similarities with the Lexus RX400h.
