Nissan Vanette and Mazda Bongo have no shape similarity and even some parts of mechanics varied. But to many the vans are considered same. This was further strengthen when the era of 1990s brought in a badge engineered Mazda Bongo, Ford Econovan and Nissan Vanette,  that lasted from 1994 onwards to 1999 generation. In this article we will discuss Nissan Vanette vs Mazda Bongo.

The brand name contributes a lot in determining the price of the vehicle. The Nissan being the sixth largest automobile manufacturing company enjoy edge on Mazda, the fifteenth largest company. It has an upper hand in terms of production, sales and pricing.

Nissan Vanette was first introduced in 1978 and is also called Nissan Van or Nissan Sunny Vanette. The general engine that came in the models is A12S, LD20, LD20S, A15S and CA20S. In first generation the vehicle came as a 4 to 5 door option with MR layout. The displacement varied form 1500 CC to 2200 CC.  The higher displacement was generally used in Diesel engine cars only, though petrol engine Nissan Vanette were also available in less displacement. Over the years the interior improved with upgraded seats, dashboard trim improvement, with the body improved making the bumpers modified, headlights elongated and windows beautifully shaped.

Technically Advanced Car

MAZDA BONGOThe Mazda Bongo on the other hand, was first produced in 1966 as a rear mounted 782 CC vehicles, with rear engine of full chassis using the Mazda 1000 engine similar to its other counterparts. Later years with increasing generations brought in 1300 CC, 1600 CC and 1500 CC improving the horse power for better drive.  Initially the Mazda Bongo had a completely unique approach, but later understanding the trend it was part of badge engineering as well. The vehicle also changed its approach towards displacement; as initially it was just petrol engine, then it brought in high displacement diesel engine alongside less displacement petrol, which later converted to 2500 CC engine in both petrol and diesel.

The technical concept remained same, as it is universal. The engines works on determining the power measurement that defines the level refined acceleration and loading capacity advantage. So initially the two makers Nissan Vanette and Mazda Bongo worked on making their engines better. In order to get edge on one another, the displacement, engine power, and fuel type were competed for betterment, but later the two joined their hands to work on mutual benefit, that made the customer better off.

Smooth Driving ExperienceNISSAN VANETTE

The two wheels drive option works on bringing fuel economy; while the four wheel drive give better grip on road. So those looking for either of the one can select option accordingly. The petrol engine provide better performance because of less maintenance and smooth run; the diesel engine gives more power and is best for greater luggage carriage. So a number of universal options were provided in both type of vehicle to make the customer choose the option satisfying need. Yet the main difference point is Nissan Vanette offered 2200 CC displacement, while the Mazda Bongo extended to 2500 CC. Even if we monitor the shape we also see that the Mazda Bongo is more stretched as compare to Nissan Vanette.

At last we can safely say that Nissan Vanette and Mazda Bongo though have engineering similarity, but are different cars.

Fuel Consumption / MPG

Average fuel consumption of Nissan Vanette is about 29 MPG while Mazda Bongo fuel economy is about 32 MPG.
