The Mercedes Actros Overview

The production cycles of the individual series are generally longer in the commercial vehicle sector than in passenger car construction. When the Daimler manufacturer offered the Mercedes-Benz Actros to the customers in 1996, it replaced the truck series of the Mercedes-Benz SK with this model in almost a quarter of a century. There were correspondingly many innovations at the Actros. Were the Mercedes-Benz SK still pragmatically named after their weight severity class (SK), Daimler now introduced a new classification for its commercial vehicles.

The Actros started in 1996 as a heavy truck and thus also the flagship of the truck fleet in the weight classes from 18 to 26 tons. In the smaller weight classes, the Mercedes-Benz Atego and Mercedes-Benz Axor soon followed. This meant that a generational change had taken place at Daimler Trucks shortly after the turn of the millennium.

New technologies for the Mercedes Actros

The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz Actros, together with a new name and design, also brought new technical innovations. In the Actros heavy lift, the engineers used the first-ever networked electronic control systems to enable safer and more cost-effective operation of the long-distance traffic truck as well as more efficient maintenance of the Mercedes-Benz Actros. From the year 2006 onwards, bodies and trailers could be integrated into the electronic board systems. The first-generation Actros was built as a chassis or tractor with different sized cabins for domestic and international long-distance traffic as well as a construction site vehicle.

Engines for the Mercedes Actros

The six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines of the Mercedes-Benz Actros, designed in V-design are offered. The small aggregates of the exhaust classes Euro 2 and Euro 3 came first to power ratings between 230 kW (313 hp) and 335 kW (456 hp). With the V8 engines, the Mercedes Actros could have up to 420 kW (571 hp). After a facelift in 2003, the top-of-the-range model, which later became a 450 - liter (612 hp) model was also presented in a special series as a Mercedes-Benz Black Edition. As of 2004, the Actros was equipped with exhaust-gas-assisted units of the Euro 4 and Euro 5 classes. In 2008, Daimler presented the Mercedes-Benz Actros of the first generation in yet slightly modified form with modified engines.

Verdict

The engine of the Mercedes Actros is very powerful and durable. When it comes to the interior, the inside of the car is very comfortable, warm and safe while the outside of the car is rather stylish and look luxurious.
