The Honda odyssey is categorized as a minivan produced by Japanese automaker Honda. It was first introduced in 1994 and was promoted in different countries of the world. It was designed in Japan during the economic crisis of the 1990s and therefore it had to follow the design restriction of a minivan. This resulted in high demand of the car in the local market and lower demand in North America. The first generation of odyssey was advertised as Honda shuttle in Europe.
FIRST GENERATION (1994–1999)
The first generation of Honda odyssey was released in Japan and North America in 1994.it was available with an option of four wheel drive. The L and Aero models were offered with a sunroof. All the models of the first generation Honda odyssey were offered with six or seven seats. All the JDM odysseys were available with double air-conditioning system. In 1995 it secured an award for the Automotive Researchers and Journalists Conference Car of the Year. In the local market i.e. it was in competition with Nissan Bassara, Toyota Ipsum and Toyota Gaia.
SECOND GENERATION (1999–2003)
The second generation odyssey was introduced in 1999 with modification of the first generation Odyssey. The exterior dimensions had extended in length with no big differences from the appearance of first generation Odyssey. It was introduced in china as a Left hand Drive (LHD).
THIRD GENERATION (2003–2008)
The third generation of Odyssey was appeared as a full alteration of the first generation Odyssey. It became
Smoother as never before, lowered in length and attained a more car-like look. The JDM Odyssey was available with cruise control for the very first time. The 4WD model was offered with the new DPS system.
FOURTH GENERATION (2008–Present)
The sale of the fourth generation odyssey initiated in Japan in 2008. It was offered with a 2.4 L engine and CVT. For the Indonesian and Australian markets the car was offered with a five-speed auto transmission. It proved to be the best selling car among the private buyers in Australia.
FIFTH GENERATION (2013-Present)
The fifth generation odyssey was released in 2013 and it the very first odyssey to have the dual sliding doors. It is offered in either seven seats or eight seats. The exterior dimensions of the odyssey have extended. In its Asian markets the model superseded the demand of the large MPV Honda Elysion.
THE KIA SEDONA
The kai Sedona is categorized as a minivan produced by kia motors. It was released in 1998. Also famous as kia carnival. The first generation models are continued to be produced and the second generation models are promoted as Hyundai Entourage in 2007-2009 in North America. The third generation of kia Sedona was released at the 2014 New York Auto Show as a 2015 model.
FIRST GENERATION (1998–2006)
The first generation kia Sedona was promoted as the Naza Ria in Malaysia. It has continued to remain in production like in the region of china. In the united states when kia was introduced it remained as one of the top selling vehicles and was in competition with the Chrysler minivans, Ford Windstar/Ford Freestar, Nissan Quest, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna. However it was short of the features that other minivans of the time had such as backup sensors, rear-view camera, power sliding doors and a navigation system.
SECOND GENERATION (2006–2012, 2014)
The second generation model kia was less weighty when compared with the first generation model. In the United Kingdom and France it was offered as in the short-wheelbase configuration only but in some markets such as in Australia and North America it was offered in both wheelbases. Same is the case with the features of the car as they varied from markets to markets.
THIRD GENERATION (2014-Present)
The 2015 year model was introduced at the 2014 New York Auto Show. For the South Korean markets it was offered only in 2.2L diesel engine and in the United States markets it was made available with six-speed transmission and front wheel drive having Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 3.3-liter V6 engine.
