The term pick-up comes from the English and means something like "take away" or "charge". With respect to motor vehicles, this word refers to an off-road vehicle or passenger car having an open, flat loading area. The cab is usually a little smaller than a SUV.
Pick-ups in the US and Australia
The pickup has long since developed into a status symbol in the USA. This is also reflected in the fact that the modern pick-ups are offered with luxury equipment and many extras. Traditionally, pick-ups in the US are equipped with high-capacity gasoline engines, so that the vehicle has the necessary power even with heavy loads. Though, the producers are Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and GMC. They also provide diesel engines with 6 or 8 cylinders.
Sizes of Pickup Trucks
In the United States, pick-up trucks are separated into four different sizes. The main renowned representative of the entry-level class is the Ford Ranger. The most recent model is offered with a 2.2-liter diesel engine, which is accessible with 125 and 150 hp.
Mitsubishi Raider
In the Midsize class, for example, the Nissan Frontier is represented, which is offered with 4-cylinder or V6 engine. In the Upper Midsize class, the almost identical models Mitsubishi Raider and Dodge Dakota can be found.
Dodge Dakota
The Dakota is currently available with V6 engine and 214 hp. The version with V8 engine and 306 hp is also already part of the new Dodge Ram series and belongs in the full-size range. The Mazda BT-50 and the Isuzu D-Max are both powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine. The Toyota Hilux is already in the 7th generation and with seven different diesel or gasoline engines. The latest model series from VW is called Amarok and is available as a four-cylinder TDI or TSI.
