The Toyota Raum is categorized as five-seat MPV with five-seats seating capacity. It was first released in 1997. Later in 2003, the second generation was released. Currently the vehicle is available at the Toyota Netz retail sales channels in Japan. The word Raum in German means” Space”. So it represents the space of expanse, area, room and symbolizes the vast amount of space it has. It is due to the fact that front doors on the passenger and the driver sides can be open with no discomfort. The rear doors are opened rearwards. The door approach used by the Raum is very much similar with the one used by the Space Runner or a Mitsubishi RVR.

 

In between of the front and the rear doors there are no doorjamb. The front passenger seats can be folded down remaining fixed to the floor whereas the rear seatstoyota raum too can be folded down making a considerable space for the rear cargo space. The automatic transmission is mounted on the dashboard.

 

THE FIRST GENERATION TOYOTA RAUM

The first generation Toyota Raum was a very reliable vehicle as it was offered with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution brakes on the packages such as G and E. It was later made available on the C package as well. It was later released in 1999 with a slight modification.

 

SECOND GENERATION TOYOTA RAUM

The second generation Toyota Raum was made available for sale in 2003. It was a complete redesign of the vehicle and had the same platform used for the Toyota Vitz.

 

For enhanced safety the side impact protection was made enhanced. The rear doors on the passengers’ side were opened with the help of remote control key fob. It was also opened electronically. This second generation Toyota Raum model had the same engine as used by the Toyota Prius.

 

The second generation Toyota Raum was awarded with Japan Award. It became very popular choice of the people with physical disabilities. Further in 2004, a new model was included to the range of models offered. It was known as the C Package NEO Edition. In 2006, the model was released with DVD navigational system and HDD. Later in 2009, it was restyled with HID headlamps and in-car cabin air filter. The 2007 model year Toyota Raum was released with an optional service known as the G-BOOK, a subscription telematics. This service was limited to the Japanese models. The Comfort level was well maintained with the front passenger seats that can be folded down to let passengers easily get access to the back seats. It was also good for the foot rest of the rear passengers. It was styled in a way that in order to get the front passengers seats folded forward, the seats will move back as far as possible to maximize legroom.

 

SAFETY

The vehicle offers a safe and secure ride with the enhanced safety features such as Electronic Brakeforce Distribution brakes and DVD navigational system that later developed into HDD. With its high level of reliability the Toyota Raum 2005 is still available for sale in many countries as it is a preferred used vehicle as well.
