Overview of Toyota MR2

The Toyota MR2 is a small, lightweight and compact two-seater sports car. MR2 stands for "Midship Runabout two-seater". Since 1984, this is sports cars on the market and the now three generations have only the central engine together. In the US, MR 2 is sold as MR S, where the "S" stands for Spider. The first series of this model, the MR 2 W1, was sold (1984 to 1989) as Targa and Coupe. In Europe the coupe was only available with a removable glass roof.

Engine

From MR2 there were 3 generations, but only the central engine and rear-wheel drive had in common. The first two generations gave it as Targa (T-Bar) and Coupé, both had pop-up headlights. The third generation was a roadster with a soft top, optionally with hardtop equipped. Two engine options were available: a 1.5-liter engine with 83 hp and a 1.6-liter engine with 116 or 145 hp supercharged. The second generation MR2 changed the appearance in several facelifts and was sold in Germany only as Targa.

The MR 2 W2, produced from 1990 to 1999, was available depending on the year with 156 hp, 175 hp and 170 hp. The third and last generation, named MR 2 W3 is given as convertibles were produced. Motorized with either a 148-hp 1.8-liter engine or a 2.0-liter turbo engine that makes 190 horsepower, this generation is the end of production of the MR2 is because the production of MR 2 W3 2005 by Toyota has been set. The MR2 is therefore a small two-seater sports car with a mid-engine car manufacturer Toyota.

The MR2 W1 (AW10, AW11, AW15, AW16 1985 - 1989), was a special Targa and Coupé, with the Coupé was delivered exclusively in Europe with a removable glass roof. The plant symbol A in example AW11   is the engine family and the last digit of the different variants. (Eg AW10 3A-L engine with cheaper Interiors exclusively sold in Japan). The version with 133 hp naturally aspirated (5S-FE) with a displacement of 2.2 liters.

More Options

In the Japanese market more engine options were offered: From 1989 to 1992, a 2.0-liter turbo engine (3S-GTE) with 165 kW (225 hp), then with 177 kW (240 hp) and 180 kW (245 hp). In recent model years, a 2.0 liter engine (3S-GE Gen IV) was fitted with variable valve timing in the MR2, this made 147 kW (200 hp). This engine was never officially offered the MR2 in Europe.

The Roadster wave did not stop even before Toyota: In 2000, the MR2 W3 (ZZW 30) became known as the Toyota MR-S, the W3 aimed at a completely different group of buyers as its predecessors W1 and W2. Exclusively with 1.8 l - equipped engine and 103 kW / 140 hp, the little roadster launched its occupants plenty of driving pleasure.

Interior and Exterior

The interior and exterior of this car is extremely comfortable and superb in quality. The exterior give a look of the luxurious car, whereas the interior of MR2 is spacious and very much comfortable.
