Toyota Mark 2 - The Vehicle That Made Value

Toyota was a small company with its hands in economy car manufacturing when Toyota Mark 2 was launched. The production of the vehicle basically started back in 1968 and belonged to the mid size class. The other name that was given to Toyota Mark 2 in export market was Toyota Cressida that came from 1976 to 1992. Over the years we can say that Mark 2 has become the reason behind the success of Toyota.


This mid size vehicle brought in following two major advantages for average customers:

Sophisticated Body Of Toyota Mark 2

The look has improved over the years with even change in varieties being offered. The body style in first generation included the 4 door sedan, 2 door coupes, 5 door station wagons and two door pickup truck respectively. The second generation has sedan, coupe and station wagon with engine improved for better performance. The third generation Toyota Mark 2 had the same body styles available with the fifth generation bringing in two types of 4 door sedan and a 5 door station wagon.

The sedans included the general body and hardtop one keeping the priority of customers in mind. That is the reason the last generation brought in sedan only with changes happening slowly and gradually.

Engine Upgraded

The engine was upgraded over the years of Toyota Mark 2 sales in a way that new level was achieved. The first generation having OHV, DOHC and SOHC inline 4 technology that came in 1500 CC, 1600 CC, 1700 CC, 1900 CC and 2000 CC respectively. The second last generation has more touch of turbo diesel and efficient petrol engine coming both as inline 4 and inline 6 technology.

It completely converted to I6 technology in the last generation with the change from Mark II Blit to Mark II Qualis (Toyota Camry). According to customer survey till its end in 2004 it was considered a successful vehicle especially in the loyal customer base of Toyota.
Hence the technical value has carved its place in the heart of many customers and as used car there is much more to come.
