The Hyundai Elantra is also known as Hyundai Avante in South Korea. It is categorized as a compact car produced by the Hyundai, the South Korean automaker. It was first produced in 1990. At the very first it was promoted as the Lantra in some European and Australian markets.


FIRST GENERATION OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The first generation Elantra was released in 1990.it underwent a modification in 1993. The Elantra was charged with a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L. The vehicle had a modification in 1992 for the European market whereas the North American market had the same preceding year’s look. The new addition to the European market model is Hyundais current logo that was attached to the grille. The last modification of this generation took place in 1993. It had modifications on the front and back of the vehicle. The features included were optional alloy seven-spoke wheels, fog lamps, front airbags, ABS brakes and power-operated side mirrors.


SECOND GENERATION OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The second generation was released in 1995. It was available in two body styles such as station wagon and sedan. In South Korean market it was marketed as Hyundai Avante available in sedan body style and "Avante Touring" available in the wagon body style. In some of the European and Australian markets it was marketed as "Hyundai Lantra" just like the first generation and the wagons were marketed as "Lantra Sportswagon". In Indonesia the vehicle was marketed as the "Bimantara Nenggala".


For the 1998 model year, the grilles were attached and the European Lantra was now available with a single-front end design. And ultimately the model had "RD2" or "J3" model codes. The new Elantra was offered with a new 2.0-litre engine option. However in Australia the GLS model was a more advanced over the GL model and was equipped with the 2.0-litre engine, alloy wheels and exterior side-view mirrors.


THIRD GENERATION OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The third generation Hyundai Elantra was released in 2000. It was made available in a five door hatchback and the estate body style was no longer produced. In 2001 for providing better level of safety and security, all the American models were offered with power steering, power windows, power locks, air conditioning, front and front side airbags.

 

FOURTH GENERATION OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The fourth generation Hyundai Elantra was launched at the New York Auto Show for the 2007 model year. It was a sedan with a new design on the exterior and interior. Elantra scored a “Good” on the side impact test by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The safety features it included were front seat-mounted torso airbags and front and rear head curtain airbags.


FIFTH GENERATION OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The fifth generation Avante was released in 2010 “International Motor Show”. It had codenames for sedan as "MD" and “UD” for the sedans that got manufactured in the US and “JK” for the ones available in coupe.
The US model from the fifth generation was released at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2010. It is charged with a new 1.8-L Nu engine.
