The Toyota Harrier is categorized as a mid-size crossover SUV. It was first released in Japan in 1997. From 1998, for the export markets the marketed as the Lexus RX. At the time, the Toyota did not resell the Lexus brand into the Japanese market.

When the third generation Lexus was released in the late 2008, the Toyota Harrier remained its production continued with no changes to its second generation model. By this time the Lexus brand had established itself as a known brand. Later in 2013, Toyota modified the Harrier.


Background


The Toyota Harrier was previously known as the Toyota model of the Lexus RX SUV, but after the third-generation RX was released there was no nameplate based on the Lexus RX. The 2014 Toyota Harrier was first released in 2013 at the Tokyo Auto Show and the 2015 Lexus RX was scheduled for its release in the United States market where it is expected to target Lincoln MKX, Cadillac SRX and Audi Q5. The Harrier was apparently different from the RX, along with many differences under the hood. The Harrier uses considerably smaller engines when compared with the RX’s larger powertrains for instance the RX 270 has 2.7 four-pot, the RX 350 has the 3.5 V6 and RX 450h has the 3.5 litre hybrid .


The Toyota Harrier is equipped with 3ZR-FAE that is a 2.0 litre Valvematic engine connected to a Super CVT-i gearbox. This regular Toyota Harrier is offered in both 2WD and 4WD system. The Harrier hybrid was equipped with a 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle 2AR-FXE. There is an E-Four system available too. It has two electric motors. And the all-wheel drive system is boosted with the help of an electric motor on the rear axle.

The interior of the Harrier is black in color where the centre console is done in piano black. The combination makes the interior attractive and elegant but easily draw dust. The seats are very restful. Both the front and back seats are comfortable. The fusion of leather and synthetic material is good to feel and very relaxing. The dashboard uses the Japanese text which can be a little difficult to understand for some of the customers. The cabin is well designed with sound proof materials but there are some noises on the rough roads.

The exterior styling of the car is very evolutionary with an aggressive looking front end. There are LED lights available on the front and back of the vehicle. The 2014 Toyota Harrier has a very good handling but sometimes experiences a little spin when taking the corners. It is perfectly fine when you are on a trip with five adults with the highway speed. Once you approach the car the blue cabin lights turned on, that feels pleasing on the eyes. The same Harrier feature is offered as standard in Camry and Lexus.
