The size and looks of Volkswagen UP may not look like a sophisticated vehicle, but it has its own beauty. It is fun to drive, comfortable on road and feels stable. The design favors it to work in town, but for the occasional motorway trip it may not be an ideal choice as it is underpowered. The changes available in 2016 model make it a classier and customizable car. Younger buyers will be attracted due to its switching to a smart phone satellite navigation system.

Origin

After the introduction of the Volkswagen UP in 2012, it has been slightly ahead then its rivals, the SEAT Mii and Skoda Citigo. The name UP gives a ancestry feel as it is a compressed version of the Lupo, indicating the compact nature of smallest car by VW.

Three Cylinder Engine

Similar to SEAT and Skoda, the three and five doors are offered by UP. Other than the introduction of a third engine in 2016, the engine range is mostly same. The UP three cylinder engine offers 1.0 60PS with 59bhp and 75PS with 74bhp. The UP is also available in 1.0 TSI 90PS (89bhp) turbocharged unit.

Transmission

A five-speed manual gearbox is standard in all the vehicles, while some selected versions also come with ASG auto with 60PS and 75PS engines. The Volkswagen UP is the electric version of the city car so it will help the consumer to deduct emissions and running costs further. The small size of Volkswagen UP ensures that it can move easily to fit in the narrow streets and tight parking area.

Interior

The UP provides high quality when it comes to interior. It provides body-colored panels. One can choose from a variety of colored trims. All models offer DAB digital radio and electric front windows. Some models also offer slick five-inch color screen and smart phone app that exceeds the value of interior. If you are a tall driver, you will need to make efforts to get comfortable with this car. Height adjustment option is given in the driver seat. Steering wheel is not adjustable though. Back seats are also designed in the same manner. But enough room is provided for tall adults to fit without any hurdle.

Storage

A single cup holder is installed at the bottom of the dashboard. Impressive storage space is offered with wide, deep door pockets. In the previous versions, front seat passenger folding option was provided which would help people to carry long items. This option is not available anymore.

Infotainment

Entry-level Take Up and Move Up trims are offered with a basic CD/DAB radio system. Bluetooth connectivity is not standard on these trims but music can be played on a 3.5mm aux input. A USB socket is also availed at a lower cost.
