The Toyota Celica is categorized as a sport car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota. It was first released in 1970. The name “Celica” is inspired by a Latin word meaning “celestial”. It was exclusively available at the Toyota Corolla Store. The most notable change occurred in 1985 when the car switched its drive layout from the rear wheel drive to the front wheel drive. For the initial three generations the Celica’s produced for the American market were charged with a lot of different models of the Toyota R series engines.


The turbocharged version based on the four-wheel drive was known as GT-Four all around the world while as All-Trac Turbo in the US. It remained in production from 1986 to 1999. The models that were produced in 1997 were available with Variable Valve Timing and from 2002 it became standard on different models. Later other versions of the car produced as Toyota Celica Supra. The Celica was offered as liftback and notchback coupes and as a convertible too.


The First Generation Toyota Celica

TOYOTA CELICAThe first generation Toyota Celica was released at the Tokyo motor show in 1970. It was marketed as a personal car with its emphasis on the styling. It was produced in four Japanese models such as ET, LT, ST, and GT. For export to other countries it was only offered in LT,ST and GT. The GTV model was released in 1972 with a little focus on the luxury oriented interior than the GT. It had a better handling with stable suspension. The Japanese GT version had many differences when compared with ET, LT and ST models. These included power windows, hood flutes and air conditioning.


The Second Generation Toyota Celica

The second-generation Celica was launched in 1978 and was offered in two body styles liftback and coupe. It was produced by the US based company the Griffith. It was offered in a Targa styleand was known as SunChaser. The second generation Toyota Celica was released and put on sale in two series, categorized as Series A and Series B. they had distinctive look with the same engine model.


The Third Generation Toyota CelicaToyota Celica

The third generation Toyota Celica was released in 1981. It was offered in liftback and coupe with many of its customers preferring the liftback model. Later in 1984, the US released its convertible models. There have been four more generations of the Toyota Celica produced with modifications to the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The prices of the Toyota Celica have been affordable and reasonable.


The Fourth Generation Toyota Celica

The fourth generation Celica was released in 1985. It was a front wheel drive vehicle with many design changes. It had a rounded body and was equipped with a 2.0 L four-cylinder engines. It was based on Toyota Corona platform. The Japanese made coupe was known as the corona coupe it had four-wheel steering offered as an optional feature while there was no turbocharged engine on the corona coupe.
