The Porsche Cayenne is categorized as a mid-size luxury crossover produced by the German automaker Porsche since 2002, with North American sales starting in 2003. It shared its platform with the Volkswagen Touareg. Since 2008, all engines are offered with direct injection technology. The second-generation Cayenne was revealed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Although the platform is common in the Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg, all other aspects of production, tuning and vehicle design are done at the Porsche.

 

The second generation had a modification in 2014 with minor exterior alterations and also got to release a new plug-in E-Hybrid version at the Paris Motor Show. The Porsche Cayenne, after its release was soon remarked as the performance vehicle among SUVs. It was admired for its superb handling and spirited engines. The models available were V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later VR6 and diesel-powered versions were made available for sale. The base model was charged by a 3.2-L VR6 engine.

 

CAYENNE S

The S is charged by an 8-cylinder engine with the help of variable valve timing and a dry-sump lubrication system.

 

CAYENNE GTS

The GTS is charged with a 405 PS (298 kW) 4.8-L V8. It has 21-inch (530 mm) wheels and a sport suspension. It has got an aerodynamic body and is less weighty when compared with the Cayenne S. It is offered with a six-speed manual transmission.

 

CAYENNE TURBO AND TURBO S

A Turbo S version was produced in 2006 as a competitor vehicle with the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG. The Cayenne Turbo S included the height-adjustable and a locking differential. It was charged with a twin-turbocharged 4.5-L V8. It had a six-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission. It was offered with optional ceramic composite brakes.

 

CAYENNE DIESEL

Since 2009, The Porsche diesel version that is charged by a Volkswagens 3.0-L V6 TDI engine is sold. The vehicle was revealed in 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

 

CAYENNE S TRANSSYBERIA

Cayenne S Transsyberia were produced in a limited number. There were only 26 in total produced especially for the racing vehicle for Transsyberia rally. Latter in order to celebrate the Porsches victory in Transsyberia rally , the street version was produced. It was offered with direct-inject 4.8-L V8 from the Cayenne GTS and the sales initiated in 2009.

 

CAYENNE GTS PORSCHE DESIGN EDITION 3 (2010)

A limited edition known as Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 was released in 2009. It was based on the Cayenne GTS it was designed by Porsche Design Studio.

 

SECOND GENERATION

The second-generation Porsche Cayenne initiated its sale in 2010 as a 2011 model. It was first released at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. The 2011 Porsche Cayenne has extended exterior dimensions. It has slanted rear window, door-mounted mirrors, taillights, headlights, smaller windows at the rear of the vehicle and LED daytime running lights. The interior was highly inspired by the Panamera.

The use of aluminum and magnesium makes it a less weighty vehicle than the previous vehicles. It is offered in diesel as well as a hybrid version. It is a very fuel efficient vehicle.
