The Mitsubishi Pajero iO is categorized as a mini sport utility vehicle that is manufactured by the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi during 1998 to 2007. The iO is derived from an Italian word meaning “me” implies that an owner’s personality is revealed with his/her choice of this vehicle. The target audience of this Mitsubishi Pajero iO is professional women and the car was sold in competition to Suzuki Vitara, Toyota RAV 4 and Honda CRV. In Europe it was known as the Pajero Pinin, simply Pinin or Shogun and was mainly exported as the Montero iO. In 2002 it was manufactured in Brazil as the Pajero TR4. Latter the name was changed from iO to “1.0”. The Brazilian TR4 has been known as the first four-wheel drive flexible-fuel vehicle.


Features And Equipments

The Mitsubishi Pajero iO has the two models offered, a three door short wheelbase (SWB) offered with a 1.6 litre engine and manual transmission and a five door long wheelbase (LWB) model offered with a 1.8 litre engine, optional manual or automatic transmission and is known as the highly advanced model from the both. On the LWB models, the automatic transmission is offered as an optional feature. The standard features available on both the models are power windows, steering and mirrors, driver’s airbag, air conditioning, alloy wheels, driver’s seat height adjustment and engine immobilizer. Apart from this the LWB models are available with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD), remote central locking and two-tone paint.


Comfort And Space

The Mitsubishi Pajero IO is available in five seats. It has enough head and shoulder room in the front seats. The driver’s seat is offered with height adjustment. The rear can be used as luggage area as it has not a comfortable shape. Moreover it can be folded too while both the front and rear seats are accessible. The cabin area is sufficient too with plenty of storage with a sunglasses compartment, a glove compartment and pockets in the front doors and console.


It has both the engines offered with Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) configurations. It boosts the power, fuel economy and better performance. The car is offered in both the transmission; manual and automatic. The shift quality is improved too with reduced vibration and noise. The stopping power is assisted with a pressure control valve and front disk brakes combine to the rear drums. With the monocoque as the basis for its design the door pillars, turret, and floor panels are integrated together. The four-wheel drive mode offers a very good handling.

Mitsubishi gives you a three year 100,000 km warranty on the iO. Also the service items are effortlessly accessible.


Safety Features

Safety features includes impact absorbing zones that are fixed in the front and rear of the vehicle body, adjustable anchor points on the front seatbelts, a drivers airbag. The security components include a keyless entry system and an electronic engine immobilizer. The passenger airbags are not offered though. For more safety fire retardant material is utilized inside the cabin.
