Mitsubishi Delica - A Range of Multi Purpose Vehicles And Trucks

The Mitsubishi Delica is known for producing different range of trucks and multipurpose vehicles. The first minitruck was produced in 1968. The truck and a commercial van had many names in export market. In New Zealand and Europe it was known as L300, in Australia it was known as Express and Starwagon and in the United States it was marketed as Mitsubishi Van and Wagon. The passenger car models were known as the Delica Star.


FIRST GENERATION MITSUBISHI DELICA

The production first generation Mitsubishi Delica was initiated in 1968. After one year of this release there were two more model added to the series. A cargo van and a passenger van the passenger van was known as Delica Coach with seating capacity for about nine passengers.


The engine of the vehicle was updated in 1969. In 1971 a modified version of the vehicle was released known as Delica 75. It was equipped with a new 1.4-liter Neptune engine and had the same small size grille. With the 1974 modification Delica had Double headlights. It was known as "Delica 1400" and in many export markets it was known as the Colt T100 or T 120. Latter the design of the T120 was copied by the Greek agricultural vehicles.


THE SECOND GENERATION MITSUBISHI DELICA

The first generation Delica was replaced in 1979 by the newly designed second generation Mitsubishi Delica. Latter the series was expanded by adding ten different models based on seating capacity of eight seats in either two or three rows along with many applications for the cargo and recreation.  In 1982 for the first time in Japanese market, a four-wheel drive option was also released. The petrol version with 4WD was released in 1983 and the diesel versions were appeared in 1982. Also the four-wheel drive model of the Delica was first released in the Japanese market.


THE THIRD GENERATION MITSUBISHI DELICA

The third generation Mitsubishi Delica was released with complete model change in 1986.it was more aerodynamic than the previous generations and had an exhaustive list of safety features. The passengers based models were offered for sale as Delica Star Wagons and as Starwagon in Australia whereas the commercial based Delica was known as the Express in Australia.


Latter in 1990, For the Australian market a naturally aspirated diesel engine became an option. It was the first Delica with the naturally aspirated diesel engine in the market.

 

FOURTH GENERATION MITSUBISHI DELICA

The fourth generation models were released in 1994 known as Delica Space Gear in the local domestic markets. There were no trucks produced in this generation. The vehicles were available in different models such as XR, XG, Exceed, Super Exceed and Royal Exceed. This fourth generation car is sturdy with a four-wheel drive having off-road aptitude. It was based on the chassis of the Mitsubishi Pajero. The cargo model was known as the Mitsubishi L400 whereas the passenger model was known as the Mitsubishi L400 in many of the export markets.


FIFTH GENERATION OF MITSUBISHI DELICA

The fifth generation of the Mitsubishi Delica was released in 2006 as a monobox minivan known as the Delica D: 5. It was based on the Concept D-5 prototype and was first released in 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It was an eight seater vehicle. In japan it was released in 2007.
