Mazda Demio is the super mini sub compact vehicle that was introduced in 1996 and till today it is available for sale. It was marketed with the name of Mazda 121, Mazda Metro and Ford Feativa Mini Wagon previously. Over the years it improved and in 2008 it won the World Car of The Year title.

The Features

The Technicality

First Generation

The Mazda Demio for sale in its first generation was based on DW platform with availability in 5 door hatchback only. The front engine front wheel layout supported the fuel efficiency, with the displacement of 1300 CC and 1500 CC to support the less fuel consumption. The engines of the vehicle included B3E and B5E continued till 2001. The engines were the improved form of B3-ME and B5 ME from 1996 to 1998 introduced at the beginning. The proper alignment of car body weight with displacement made the car a comfortable driving experience. The overall look was also suitable as according to 1990s option though there were areas that needed consideration.

Second Generation

The second generation brought in front engine front wheel drive with four wheel drive option, giving a better grip of tires on road. This made Mazda Demio hatchback even a preference for those looking for stabilized experience. The Japan market brought in three trim levels to satisfy three markets. The cozy version included the optional canvas sunroof; the sports one for young men and Casual to focus on young women. Even in Europe the trims were available as S, TS and TS2; giving one of the export market features package to choose from.

Third Generation

The third generation starting from 2007 came in DE platform. It is also produced by Ford Motor Company by the name of Ford Fiesta. The overall dimension of the used Mazda Demio and the new one has been reduced with light weight material usage. It has been available as country specific versions having Japan, Europe, North America and China market specifications. In this generation diesel engine also gained popularity with the availability of 3 door and 5 door hatchback alongside 4 door saloon.
