The Honda Pilot is categorized as a mid-size crossover SUV produced by Honda and was first introduced in 2002. Initially it was intended for the North American market. The pilot was the largest SUV vehicle available with three-row seating arrangements. Till 2007 it was manufactured in Alliston, Canada and Ontario. As a 2003 year model the first generation pilots were introduced in 2002. At present it is produced in Lincoln, Alabama.


Before the pilot got released, the Honda was only available in compact crossover SUV CR-V and the truck based Honda passport. The pilot remained as the largest Honda vehicle till 2010 when the larger Crosstour was introduced. The pilot mainly was sold in North America, Japan and Australia. It was sold as the Honda MR-V in the Middle East countries. The second generation of the pilot was made available in Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Philippines, Russia and the Caribbean.

 

FIRST GENERATION OF HONDA PILOT (2003–2008)

The Pilot is equipped with an aluminum alloy 3.5 L SOHC, 24-valve VTEC V6 engine. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated gas mileage for 2007 of 16 mpg- The FWD Pilot models are available with the latest generation of Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). It is designed to enhance the fuel economy. It is done by automatically deactivating and reactivating different cylinders. The design for the Honda pilot was approved in 1999.


The vehicle became more stylish. It was adept to transport up to eight passengers. The third row seating was available with a limited area, only feasible for short trips. Whereas the rear seats could be folded down to provide a roomier cargo space if needed. Seats were arranged in a stadium like setting. The optional conveniences included were a navigation system, a powered moonroof, DVD entertainment system.


The pilot uses a four-wheel drive system known as Variable Torque Management 4WD (VTM-4) whereas the two wheel drive models were made available since 2005.
The pilot’s safety features include ABS-equipped four-wheel disc brakes, the VTM-4 system and rack-and-pinion steering. The structure is designed in s way to distort the front, side and rear end collisions. Also it is capable of absorbing crush zones.


The 2006 modified pilot was available with halogen projector headlights, different grille insert and taillights. The EX model was made available with modified wheels and the original EX wheels were now made available on the LX model. From the inside there were a lot of changes like side airbags were provided in C pillar protecting rear passengers, cup holders and restyled storage compartments.

 

 SECOND GENERATION OF HONDA PILOT (2009–2015)

The second generation Honda pilot is offered in four models LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All these models are fit together d at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln, Alabama. It has a new grill shape. Headlights lose the previous generations halogen projectors and return to standard halogen reflectors.


The second generation was available with standard halogen reflectors and a new grill shape. The interior has been upgraded noticeably. Interior features include a tri-zone automatic climate control system, a new power tailgate, and two-position memory settings for the drivers seat. The Touring models include a Satellite-Linked Honda Navigation System and a 120-volt power outlet. For the 2013 model year, Bluetooth, USB connector, tri-zone climate control and wireless audio streaming, and a rearview back up camera are standard on all Pilots


THIRD GENERATION OF HONDA PILOT (2016–PRESENT)

The third-generation 2016 Pilot was introduced early in 2015. The exterior features include LED brake tail lights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED headlamps are the optional features. It is a less weight car reducing the vibration and engine noise. The exterior is quiet smooth and advanced unlike its last generation model.
The safety measures are too enhanced including Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Blind Spot Indicators, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and passenger side mirror camera. Optional safety features including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
