The Ford Expedition is precisely sized between the Ford Escape and Ford Excursion models. Like the other two SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles), the Ford Expedition is available with all-wheel drive as well as with two-wheel drive.

 

Generations

The Ford expedition of the generations from 1996 to 2006 was manufactured on the basis of the Ford F 150 pickup. The 1999 model-covered expedition ran with a wheelbase of just over three meters and a total length of nearly 5.20 meters off the line. The Ford Expedition offered a conventional rear wheel drive as well as an all-wheel drive in conjunction with a four-speed gearbox.

 

For the all-wheel drive models, the manufacturer also offered equipment packages with under run protection and a blocking differential in order to optimize the off-road capabilities of the expedition. Only V8 engines were available as engines.

 

Engine Specifications

An unusual feature of Ford SUV is that it can fit more than nine people, which is rather unusual for an SUV. The only obtainable engine for the car is a powerful 5.4 liter engine mated with V8 and 300 hp, which broadcasts the engine power to one or both axles by means of its high quality four-speed automatic transmission.

 

The model change in the Ford F-Series pickups had happened in 1996; the manufacturer modernized the series of its full-size SUVs, which had been marketed since then under the designation Ford Expedition. The all-wheel drive versions of the full-size SUV with a force of more than 3.5 tonnes were the alternative to the Ford F-Series trucks due to their design and the V8 engines used.

 

Equipment Line

The customer can choose from a total of six equipment lines (XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer, Limited and Ford Excursion King Ranch). All the equipment of the SUV has an air conditioning, a CD radio and a cruise control on board.

 

Nine Seater

In the third phase of construction, starting in 2006, the manufacturer expanded its SUV program in the model range by a long version of the expedition, which came to the market to distinguish the variants with short and long wheelbase with a name addition as Expedition Max in North America.

 

In other countries, the larger models were also sold under the name Ford Expedition EL. Special feature of the Ford expedition with extended wheelbase: They received a third row of seats as standard, so that the Ford Expedition could be used as a 9-seater.
