Daihatsu is the oldest company of Japan dealing in cars of different sizes and nature. It belongs to the big giant, as the parent company is Toyota Group. The company has been in market since 1907, and the global expansion dated back to 1960s. There are a number of small models and off road vehicles produced by the company that had catered global customers to perfection.


Daihatsu teriosDaihatsu Terios SUV was introduced by the company in 1997 with modification of Charade engine of 1.3 L. It was available in both four wheel drive and two wheel drive option. The automatic transmission comes with four speed option while the manual transmission had five gear options.  Over the years even the used Daihatsu Terios was able to capture huge market chunk.

 

Daihatsu Terios - The First Generation

The first generation started in 1997 and was ended in 2005. In different markets diverse names are used like in Malaysia it is called Perodua Kembara, in India Premier Rio, in Germany Luis 4U Green and in Indonesia Daihatsu Taruna.


Initially it came as a station wagon with five doors and the kei car model called Terrios Kid. The year 2000 brought in mild facelift that was in accordance with the aesthetic sense of customers. The plastic grille was replaced by Chrome Grille adding style with new level of durability. The up gradation of electronic front windows, rear seat head restraints and central locking made interior more refined with the addition of Alloy Wheels, Roof Rail and Roof mounted Rear Spoiler to support exterior.


The engines available included the 659 CC Turbo I3, 1.3L SOHC and DOHC I4 technology. The Single Shaft is for those who focus more on price as Time belt can easily be replaced. The Double Shaft reduces inertia leading to better airflow improving combustion efficiency.

 

Daihatsu Terios - The Second Generation

The second generation started from the year 2006 and continues till today. It is a D-Concept 4X4 vehicle that came in the Toyota Motor Show 2005. It was made 200 mm wider and has gained popularity in Europe, Asia and Africa. In Chile it is called Daihatsu Terios Wild, in Turkey as Daihatsu Terios Eco and in Indonesia as Toyota Rush.

 

Engine

The engines available were 1.3 L and 1.5 L in diesel options and had permanent 4 WD systems. The lockable central differential increased traction, limiting the two wheels in axle reducing resistance. The Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) had the Daihatsu Be-go and Toyota Rush offered in European, Asia and South America. The transmission remained same, although the inline4 technology engine came as 1.5L only.  The changes happened as according to market, with Indonesia having the longer wheelbase and Malaysia having the shorter wheelbase as according to the market.Over the years Daihatsu Terios improved to a new level, that today we see its brand loyalty visible through its customer base.
