The Audi Q5 Launch

In the expansion of SUVs, the VW Group excluded its subsidiary Audi and rather to use the thriving market for luxury off-road cars together with Porsche. Only three years after the company presented its first SUV generation and with their Audi Q7, which was introduced in 2005, they launched the largest SUV from German production. When, at about the same time, the development of a new model generation of the mid-range Audi A4 series was developed. This compact SUV came finally in the year 2008 as Audi Q5 into the trade.

Compact SUV with All-Wheel Drive

audi q5In the design of the Audi Q5, the stylists bonds were made with the bigger brother Audi Q7, whose front and rear styling was adopted in basic features by the Audi Q5. With the dimensions of 4.63 meters in length and 1.88 meters in width and with a weight of more than 1.8 tons, the Audi Q5, however, documented its affiliation with the compact class SUVs. However, with an elevation of 1.65 meters, it had a rather untypical flat structure. The Audi Q5 entrance models exclusively offered with all-wheel drive which is also unusual for a compact SUV.

Engine Choice

The Audi Q5 was offered as petrol and diesel engines in three powerful levels. The Audi Q5 with a two-liter displacement and a turbocharged engine with 132 kW (180 hp) was the entry-level model for the petrol engines. With this engine, the Audi Q5 reached a top speed of 210 km / h. In the medium class the Audi Q5 had 155 kW (211 hp). Thus the compact SUV came with a top speed of 222 km / h. Both petrol models consumed an average of 8.1 liters, which corresponds to a CO2 emission of 188 g / km. The top model of the petrol engines was equipped with a V6 engine, which could mobilize up to 199 kW (270 hp) and propelled the Audi Q5 up to 234 km / h.

Fuel Consumption / MPG

The average fuel consumption of the six-cylinder engine is 9.3 liters (218 g / km CO2). All gasoline engines fulfilled the Euro5 exhaust gas standard. Moreover, the average diesel consumption of the diesel model is 6.2 liters and a CO2 value of 162 g / km, this Audi Q5 was the most fuel-consuming model of the small SUV series.

The Diesel Engines of the Q5

Three different diesel engines were available for the Audi Q5. The basic model with a displacement of two liters had a common-rail engine with 105 kW (143 hp), with which the Audi Q5 accelerated to 190 km / h. The next-largest diesel unit mobilized a maximum of 125 kW (170 hp) in the Audi Q5. The top model with its V6 diesel engine provided the Audi Q5 176 kW (240 hp).
