For decades, the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series have gone head-to-head, fighting it out for the number one spot in the ultimate sport sedan division. They are historic rivals and these two cars have set standards of the executive sport sedan and are the benchmark upon which the segment is evaluated. With turbocharged direct injected four cylinder engines, Audi A4 and BMW 328i produce adequate power. On highway, they are capable to get over 30 mpg.

The car’s horsepower and torque are 252 and 273 respectively, and a quite respectable fuel efficiency at 28 mpg combined. The renowned quattro all-wheel drive system remains a major draw.


Audi A4 also comes with 190-horsepower, getting 31mpg combined. This can satisfy the need for buyers prioritizing fuel efficiency. Audi A4 comes with two transmission options. Buyers can chose from a six speed manual or a seven speed S tronic dual-clutch unit. Both transmissions options are available with all or front wheel drive.
Lastly, the A4 features more cabin space for passengers and could be a top choice for a growing family.


BMW 328i

BMW focuses more on a fusion of a classic sports car with the practicality of a sedan. The BMW 328i arrives with the standard rear-wheel drive, projecting an old-school feeling that its counterpart couldn’t offer.


 BMW comes with a eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission that, transferring the power to rear wheels. In spite of the 328’s power deficit compared to the A4, the 328 manages to to be the quicker of the two luxury sports sedans. Their acceleration numbers tend to be the same when changed to all wheel drive.

 

Verdict

The benefit of a better grip is with Audi due to the Quattro system, but minus that from the A4 and it can’t even handle the rear drive BMW. Nonetheless, the Audi A4 does offer superior efficiency, particularly in Ultra guise.
