Acura Vigor - The Premium Sedan

The Acura Vigor is also known as Honda Vigor. It is categorized as a premium sedan. In Japan it was sold from 1981 to 1995and in North America it was sold from 1992 to 1994. The Acura vigor was designed during the time of "bubble economy". In North America Acura TL took its place while the Honda Saber / Inspire took place of it in Japan.


THE FIRST GENERATION ACURA VIGOR

The first generation Vigor was produced in 1981. It was available as a 3-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan.  It was first produced specific to Japan market only. It was a vigorous vehicle in an actual sense with its sportier and faster performance. The Toyota Chaser and the Nissan Laurel in Japan gave the Vigor a tough competition.


Features like power windows, power steering, drivers one touch express down, automatic fan speed control, air conditioning and cruise control were offered as standard features. An "Electronic Navigator" was also offered as a standard feature on the vigor. ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts were also offered on all the vigor models. The optional features included were four-wheel Anti-lock brakes, digital instrumentation, alloy wheels (13-inch), a choice of stereo systems, and an an Electro Gyrocator.


The models that were made available were the MG, ME, and ME-R for the sedan. And the packages were the VXR, VX, and VL. The Vigor hatchback was offered with the packages MX-T, and the ME. Features such as a rear cargo cover, split folding rear seats, flow through ventilation, AM/FM cassette stereo, fuel usage computer, cruise control and two Coaxial loudspeakers were offered on the MX-T hatchback and the MG and ME sedans.


The standard feature offered on the MX-T hatchback and the MG and ME sedans included cruise control, 2 position 4 Wheel auto leveling suspension, fuel usage computer, AM/FM cassette stereo and two Coaxial loudspeakers, flow through ventilation, velour interior with split folding rear seats, and a rear cargo cover for the hatchbacks. ME-T hatchback and the ME-R models had interior illumination, disc brakes front and rear, stereo system and stereo system. The fully loaded Vigor 2 door hatchback had enormous cargo space as compared with the first generation Nissan Leopard coupe.


THE SECOND GENERATION ACURA VIGOR

The second generation vigor was released as a four-door sedan only in 1985. It was now offered with a 1.8 L B18A four-cylinder engine . The models available were 2.0 Si, MXL-S, MX, MXL, and MF.


Brakes were available as small 4-wheel discs with twin-piston calipers or larger 4-wheel discs with single piston calipers. ABS was offered as an optional feature on the 4-wheel disc brake models. On the luxury car like 2.0Si included optional four-wheel anti-lock brakes, a power tinted glass moonroof, cruise control, tilt steering with speed sensitive power steering, 4-Wheel disc brakes, optional leather interior and power windows, power door locks.


THE THIRD GENERATION ACURA VIGOR

The third generation Vigor in Japan was offered in four packages, such as the Type N, Type E, Type W, and Type X.  In 1991, the production of the Type N package was stopped. The Type S-Limited eventually became the top model package. In 1992, 2.5XS, 2.5S, 2.5X, 2.5W, 2.0G, and the Type W were the different packages. Digital signal processing was offered as an optional feature.
