Kia Motors is the second largest car manufacturing Company in South Korea followed by Hyundai Motor Company. The headquarter is based in Seoul and over 33.9% owned by Hyundai Motor Company. The Kia word is derived from Korean words which mean “to arise to the world from Asia”. The key person of the company is Hyoung-Keun (Hank) Lee who is successfully leading the company since August 2009.

Kia is the oldest car manufacturer in Korea founded in 1994 as steel tubing and bicycle parts producing company. The company started to build complete bi-cycle in 1951 proceeding towards manufacturing motorcycles in 1957, trucks in 1962 and stepped into car manufacturing business from 1974. The company inaugurated the first dedicated automotive assembly plant in 1973 which is called the Sohari Plant. Kia Cars are compact, excellently designed; perform with optimum speed and economical fuel consumption.

The winner of the “Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany” named, Peter Schreyer who had worked with Audi and Volkswagen was appointed as Chief designer officer in Kia in the year 2006. From then, he is the central personal for restyling Kia’s range of vehicles. Kia’s design centers are in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Korea (Namyang Design Center). Kia introduced a new grille style to form a recognizable ‘face’ of Kia through Kia Kee concept vehicle which was shown at Frankfurt Motor show in 2007. The new face was then called as Tiger Nose.

The Chief Designer, Schreyer briefed that he wanted a powerful visual signal and the front of the car needed to have this expression. He further said that the cars needed a face and he thought that the New Kia face was strong and distinctive; he wanted to create an image for the Kia to be identified even from a far distance. At that point company decided to carry the same face on all upcoming models.
