The Toyota Chaser was initially made available in the market as a 1977 stock, sharing the chassis with Toyota Cressida and Toyota Mark II. Though it initially came as a 4 door sedan and 2 door coupe, but later in second generation the coupe version was discontinued.

The vehicle came till 2000, divided in 6 generations. The first one starting from 1977 to 1980 with chassis X30, X31, X40 and X41. They were made keeping economy in mind, rather than performance. Hence the engine displacement came as 1.8 L and 2.0 L 4 cylinder aside from 2.0 L 6 cylinder. The front wheel drive further brought in fuel economy, by giving power to the front two wheels.

Second Generation

The second generation was introduced in 1980 and continued till 1984. The chassis X51 and X61 was available in 6 cylinder 2.0 L with single cam and twin cam. The 4 door sedan and hardtop were made available in the market with a trim having a sports tuned suspension. Though in this generation Toyota Chaser faced competition with Nissan Leopard.

Third Generation

The third generation Toyota Chaser came from 1984 to 1988, as a performance oriented option. The interior and exterior improved bringing in a bit smaller size vehicle with advance features and luxurious interior. The GT twin turbo was made available with 5 speed manual transmission as an option with LPG engine. The bumper and front grille upgraded with multiple special edition launch in this generation. The Toyota Chaser fourth generation X81, from1989 to 1992 further brought in improvements bringing in diverse trim levels XL, XG, Raffin, SXL and many more. The displacement of this generation was 2.0 L, 2.5 L and 3.0 L with maximum horse power utilization allowed by Japanese regulations.

The Toyota Chaser in the fifth generation brought in X90, from 1992 to 1996 with more curvier and classier look, with sporty features enhancement full in progress.

Last Generation

The last generation brought in X100 Toyota Chaser, with best look carried till date. More accessories were present in the vehicle with 16 inch alloy wheel, with Avante Four and Avante Four G Package availability in 4 gearbox Electronic Control Type (ECT) automatic transmission only. Though the other packages were improved each satisfying the chunk of customers according to the need. The X100 Toyota Chaser was part of Japanese Touring Car Championship with involvement even in drifting events, entrance to the the sports market with a bang.

Hence the Toyota Chaser, the third twin made its place in the market.
